The Void (2016)
Directed by Jeremy Gillespie & Steven Kostanski
Quick Hit
The Void plays like a cosmic nightmare—goopy, practical, with enough style to make the damage look beautiful.
Full Take
The Void leans hard into cosmic horror energy, and Jeremy Gillespie & Steven Kostanski keeps the tone goopy without letting the movie drift. The filmmaking is locked in, the atmosphere is doing real work, and the payoff earns the damage. It may not be for everybody, but it definitely has teeth.

There’s a lot to like here, but also a lot that holds it back from being great.
I’m somewhere in the middle on The Void. I can see why people rock with it because the tone is there. I just don’t think every piece is firing at the same level. So yeah, I respect it more than I love it.

This didn’t really land for me overall, but I can see why some people like it.

I actually agree with this take. It’s not perfect but it definitely delivers in key moments.
