Stage Fright (1950)
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
Quick Hit
Performance, lying, and murder folded into one backstage package.
Full Take
Stage Fright has a lighter touch than Hitchcock's darkest noirs, but its interest in performance makes it more than a breezy whodunit. Everyone is acting for survival, desire, or vanity, and the movie enjoys peeling those masks back. Shifty and satisfying.

This sticks with you. The atmosphere and direction carry it hard and make it feel special.
I honestly think this is elite. It might not be perfect, but it does so many things right that it doesn’t matter.
This is one of those movies that just works on every level. The tone, pacing, and execution all come together perfectly.
