Quatermass and the Pit (1967)
Directed by Roy Ward Baker
Quick Hit
Quatermass and the Pit is a sixties horror piece whose value comes down to control, pacing, and payoff. Atomic-age nerves help more than the effects.
Full Take
From a craft standpoint, the film is strongest when its design and pacing stay aligned. The visual logic holds up better than some of the narrative shortcuts. British genre discipline gives the film a cleaner shape than many of its pulp peers. The concept is only as strong as the clarity of its escalation. Net result: BAD.
