Picture Mommy Dead (1966)
Directed by Bert I. Gordon
Quick Hit
Picture Mommy Dead has a clean hook and some atmosphere but not enough follow-through, which keeps it well below the line. You can see the movie it wanted to be.
Full Take
This one swings hard at horror and only sometimes connects. When the image is sharp and the menace is clean, it lands. Once the mood is set, everything comes down to whether the film can cash in its own setup. The set pieces are what matter, and this one gets some mileage out of them. That’s why it lands at BAD.
