I Confess (1953)
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
Quick Hit
A vow of silence turned into noir punishment.
Full Take
I Confess is one of Hitchcock's most austere films, and that severity is the point. The tension comes not from action but from a man trapped between moral law and worldly suspicion, which gives the whole film a cold spiritual pressure. Grave, beautiful, underrated.

I honestly think this is elite. It might not be perfect, but it does so many things right that it doesn’t matter.
