❌
Daimajin (1966)
Directed by Kimiyoshi Yasuda
Quick Hit
Daimajin either bites hard or fizzles out; this one lands well below the line. The visual discipline keeps it sharp.
Full Take
This one swings hard at horror and only sometimes connects. It lives or dies on execution, not reputation, and that matters here. Japanese horror of this period tends to sharpen image, rhythm, and ritual into something meaner than it first appears. The set pieces are what matter, and this one gets some mileage out of them. That’s the difference between a curiosity and a real hit.
