Castle of the Living Dead (1964)
Directed by Warren Kiefer
Quick Hit
Castle of the Living Dead has a clean hook and enough craft to carry the premise, which keeps it comfortably above water. Style keeps the blood warm.
Full Take
You can feel the movie reaching for a hit from frame one. When the rhythm drags or the trick is obvious, it starts leaking air fast. Italian horror style carries a lot of the value here: texture, atmosphere, and a taste for beautiful decay. The set pieces are what matter, and this one gets some mileage out of them. That’s why it lands at SOLID.
